Our Approach

Choosing where you stay
is choosing who you support.

Where you stay shapes what you leave behind — in an ecosystem, in a local economy, in a place someone calls home. Responsible stays should be just as easy to find as beautiful ones. That's what Positive Escapes is for.

Sustainability

What we actually look for.

Every stay we feature has been reviewed through nine criteria — covering what a stay actually leaves behind in an ecosystem, a local economy, a place. Together, they cover all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Wildlife

Stays that genuinely look after what's around them — whether that's a coral reef, a forest, or a wetland. Active conservation, zero animal exploitation, and a real commitment to leaving the natural world a little better.

Community

Real, traceable impact on the people who live where guests travel — fair employment, local sourcing, and investment that stays in the community long after check-out.

Energy

Renewables, passive design, certified reductions. We look at what's genuinely in place — solar panels, natural ventilation, third-party audits — and how it compares to conventional alternatives.

Water

Rainwater harvesting, reduced consumption, and care for the local sources that guests and communities share alike. Water is never just a guest amenity.

Food

Local sourcing, on-site growing, seasonal menus — with supply chains we can actually trace. Kitchens that know where their ingredients come from and are happy to talk about it.

Waste

Less plastic, less waste, more care. We look for stays that have genuinely worked to reduce what they throw away — kitchen scraps, packaging, single-use everything.

Transport

Getting there is part of the footprint, and we're upfront about it. We share what each stay does to reduce the impact once you arrive — shared transfers, on-site solutions, honest trade-offs.

Materials & Construction

Local materials, traditional craftsmanship, low-impact methods. We look at how a building was made — and whether it genuinely belongs in its landscape.

Transparency

The clearest signal of all. Properties that openly share what they do — and what they're still working on — show a kind of honesty that's rare and worth celebrating.

Travel mindfully.

No stay is without impact.
On each stay page, we share what's worth knowing before you arrive — so you can make informed choices when you get there.

Why we exist

Responsible travel
should be easy.

We do the research so you don't have to. Every stay is selected based on what's publicly documented — certifications, transparency reports, concrete commitments. Only places genuinely worth going to.
